Stable Moments™ offers sanctuary for a child in an unsettled world. Our mission is to create a physically and emotionally safe environment for foster/adopted children to develop a healing relationship with a horse. We understand that a child’s well-being is mainly impacted by their caregivers. We emphasize self care for our foster/adoptive parents, which includes taking time for themselves, in a calm, peaceful environment.
People easily acknowledge the pain and discontent that comes from a child enduring trauma in their early developmental years. Most don’t understand the secondary trauma that occurs when a foster/adoptive parent is introduced to a child that has suffered abuse or neglect. While foster/adoption can be a beautifully rewarding process, we understand that it is also trying, confusing and isolating.
We hope the parents in our program feel welcome to share their setbacks and successes. We encourage honest conversations regarding parenting struggles and hope to provide applicable coping strategies to address yours and your child’s best care. We allow parents to take time, while their child is meeting with their volunteer, to engage in their own wellness activities. Our locations offer a peaceful getaway. Parents are encouraged to take time for themselves, reading a book, walking in nature, or bonding with a horse. Often, parents find their own healing connection on the property.
Parents with children in the program are directly in contact with their child’s Stable Moments volunteer. They are able to communicate schedule changes and provide updates regarding their child’s week when necessary. The better we can understand the child, the better we can foster the relationship between child and horse.
